THOUGHT PIECES FROM EMILY. Check out the viral post on linkedin here:
Let me be clear: I'm not a recruiter. I'm a headhunter.
I've never advertised a job in my entire career
Here's why YOU need to know the difference...
I've never posted a job advert in my career.
I don't sift through resumes in an ATS system. I don't work with "loads of job specs and see what sticks."
Headhunting is something entirely different.
I work with specific assignments from external clients, focusing on finding exceptional talent who aren't actively looking.
I build relationships with professionals at the top of their game, understanding their career aspirations long before they're ready to make a move.
The confusion between these roles isn't just semantic - it's a fundamental misunderstanding of value.
Elite talent doesn't browse job boards. They come to headhunters like me saying, "What's out there in the market right now?"
And it goes deeper than just access to opportunities:
When a senior executive is negotiating compensation, why would they discuss their concerns and salary expectations with someone employed by their potential employer? There's no safe space there.
As a headhunter, I provide that critical third-party perspective. I can represent both the client's and candidate's interests fairly because I'm external to both.
You can't match talent through an automated system - you need someone who understands the nuances.
So next time you're looking for top executive talent, ask yourself:
Do you need a recruiter or a headhunter?
Trust me, there's a difference.
